Dokdo Riders planned a round-the-world motorcycle crossing to promote the solidary conscience for the world peace with young people around the world, as well as to inform the world of the territorial sovereignty of Dokdo of the Republic of Korea.

  The extant movement to protect the territorial sovereignty of Dokdo has been most likely a type of seminar around the academic discussions. Further developed types from such movement would be the voluntary activities of young people and university students including VANK (Voluntary Agency Network of Korea). But the problem from such activities up to now is that all those have been passive responses to the movement of Japan. In other words, they have mainly focused on the refutation and interpretation of data facing their absurdities and pretexts.

  Unfortunately, this Dokdo issue is beyond the concern of most world citizens who are thought to be the subjects to solve the issue. It is high time for us to bring the world citizens urgently to being aware of Dokdo right, while we are living in the globalization age, where the world opinion demonstrates more power than the military force or the economic ability.

  The direction to which we have to orient in response to the world citizens indifferent to the Dokdo issue is not ‘persuading them’ but just ‘informing them of the facts’. In addition, this should start with drawing their attention from their indifference above all.

  It is clearly meaningful works to send rich information and historical facts related to Dokdo to each organization by email. However, it might be an effective way only to those minority interested in the Dokdo issue in any case.

  As Dokdo Riders meets the world citizens directly and actively further from the extant passive activities, it will play a role of Korean diplomatic delegation evoking their interest and informing them of the Dokdo issue to the point. In such respect, the instrument motorcycle is important.

  Although we often think that a certain argument is accepted when it has a valid ground, we regard in fact as a criterion the attitude, voice volume, appearance and value system of speakers in many cases. It is just like we think it right what one says just because we respect one’s personality in most cases.

  Everyone knows that a motorcycle is a dangerous instrument. Although we do not explain in detail what a dangerous and tough challenge it might be to cross the world by such a motorcycle, all the world citizens who we get to know indirectly through the media like the newspapers and broadcasting companies as well as those we meet directly around the world would recognize the point.

  We will promote the interest to the world citizens with an icon of these dynamic and progressive young people, the motorcycle, at the front. Such interest will lead naturally to the interest right in the Dokdo issue, which will subsequently become an solid ground to accomplish the great goal of ‘informing the Dokdo issue right’.

  We Dokdo Riders attempt to play a part in solving any problem by demonstrating our capability and accessing in a way of young people on our own for the internationally sensitive territorial dispute problem. In addition, we will try our best to have an opportunity to sublimate the Dokdo issue in the historical relation between Korea and Japan that is transformed into the confronting structure into not the ‘dispute’ but the ‘peace and harmony’ with the round-the-world crossing. It is expected to formulate a long-term friendly relation with each nation in the world, as well as to elevate the position of Korea, beyond the Dokdo issue.
